Costco and Panasonic partner again, officially opening in Suzhou


Costco Suzhou officially opened today, making Suzhou the second city in mainland China to have a Costco after Shanghai.


Costco supermarket and Panasonic partnered again, collaborating with Panasonic subsidiary Hussmann to provide a customized warehousing supermarket equipment solution for the Suzhou store. The store uses a total of 54 refrigeration and freezing units, and 4 parallel units. Panasonic Cold Chain provides Costco with a "one-stop" solution from design to construction.


On August 27, 2019, Costco's first inland China store opened in Shanghai. Within just half a day, it had to temporarily suspend operations due to excessive customer traffic. Costco's arrival ignited the domestic membership supermarket market and also strengthened Costco's confidence in the Chinese market. The Suzhou Costco is located at No. 9 Chengji Road, Suzhou High-tech Zone, with an operating area of approximately 16,000 square meters on the first floor. The second and third floors, and the top of the third floor, are parking areas. On the first day of opening, the Suzhou Costco membership card applications exceeded 10,000, breaking its global record for the number of cards issued on the first day. Fully considering the needs of warehouse membership supermarket customers to display large items, the design increases the strength of the shelves and cover plates to meet the needs of warehouse membership supermarkets and store large items. The vertical air curtain cabinet combines the display effect of the facade with the functionality of storage, providing more display and storage space for goods.


The interior is entirely made of stainless steel, making it sturdy, durable, and easy to clean. The built-in equipment facilitates layout changes, and the extra-large opening area provides more display space for goods.


Sockets are provided on the side panels, providing convenience for the on-site preparation of fresh food samples for customers in the warehouse membership supermarket.

The half-height display cabinets for storing refrigerated fresh food also provide a large capacity for warehouse-style displays. The low-height design and combination with the processing area allow customers to see the preparation process, enhancing trust.

The horizontal cabinets can choose freezing and refrigeration temperature zones as needed. The front uses a three-layer glass structure for insulation and dew prevention, while optimizing the display area. The low-height design of the horizontal cabinets ensures that even when placed in the middle of the store, they do not affect the store's transparency.

A variety of delicious cakes provide customers with a rich taste experience.

Exquisite fresh flower display cabinets extend the shelf life of flowers, multi-layer display saves space, and the colorful color scheme attracts customers' attention.

Use cold storage to store frozen and refrigerated goods; store inside the warehouse and display outside, optimizing space utilization and better achieving FIFO (First In, First Out).

Tips

Hussmann was founded in the United States in 1906, mainly manufacturing and selling refrigerated display cabinets for supermarkets. It is one of the earliest manufacturers of refrigerated display cabinets to enter China. Panasonic acquired 100% of Hussmann's equity in 2016. Panasonic Cold Chain is the sole sales window for Hussmann in China.
